Neuromuscular Rehabilitation
Horizon Rehabilitation Centers have staff with specialized training and experience in the treatment of individuals with neurological conditions. All clients can expect patient-centered, goal-oriented examinations and interventions striving to optimize the patient’s level of function. Frequent and thorough communication with physicians and nurse practitioners can be expected throughout the episode of care to ensure quality care. Specific areas of expertise include:
· Multiple Sclerosis
o Treatment may be appropriate at initial diagnosis or following/during an exacerbation. Patients are also encouraged to have frequent “tune-ups” to monitor physical function. Physical therapy interventions may include but are not limited to treatment of gait, balance, strength, fatigue/energy management and conservation, heat management strategies, adaptive equipment recommendations, and home/vehicle evaluations. Staff physical therapists are certified in the use of the Bioness L300 to assist with foot drop.
· Parkinson’s Disease
o Treatment may be appropriate at initial diagnosis or on an intermittent, as needed basis. Physical therapy interventions are used to address impairments involving gait, balance, rigidity, freezing, endurance and flexibility deficits. Mandy Rohrig is a LSVT BIG Certified clinician. LSVT BIG is a proven treatment intervention specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
Functional Capacity Evaluations For Neuromuscular Conditions
The staff at Horizon Rehabilitation Centers respects the challenges imposed upon individuals who are managing work as well as chronic neurological conditions. Functional capacity evaluations are a series of specialized, standardized physical testing measures that are compiled to provide clarification to an individual’s physical work capabilities. It is designed to provide focused tests and measures in the areas typically requested by the Social Security Administration or disability carriers. The test protocols can be further individualized to satisfy the carrier’s needs. The information is compiled and often used by employers, lawyers, and clients as evidence of work capabilities to determine eligibility for disability. Whether an individual has been denied or “cut off” from disability, an attorney needing valid and reliable data for Social Security Disability, Short Term Disability, and Long Term Disability, or an employer seeking to measure an individual's function for a safe work environment, the staff at Horizon Rehabilitation Centers has the expertise to assist.
